The snow has brought on extra demand around the bird feeding stations with the arrival of the Thrush family, most notably the Fieldfares and the Redwings. they come in search of any berries on the holly bushes and remaining crab apples. I usually add to this natural supply with cut up apples.

What a wonderful selection of birds there are in your garden, Brian! We get yellowhammers here too, but I haven’t seen any in recent days. The feeders are very busy, but the berries are pretty much all finished. It seems like terrible timing for a cold spell.

They are Eliza, we only see them in the gardens when the weather is severe.

Lovely pictures. I have one very agressive field fare but no redwings. Putting out apples at the end of a long winter is so important to so many birds!

I never realised how many blackbirds there are around until today, with open warfare breaking out around the feeders! It certainly gets busy in avian world when bad weather hits.

Apparently Blackbirds migrate along with the rest of the Thrush family Jessica. They must of heard of your feeding stations.

Fieldfares have paid me a visit yesterday for the first time (in 27 years here). And they brought the entire extended family along.I thought they might be starlings in disguise as there were so many of them, fighting over everything. They’re back again today for dessert,

They are an aggressive bird standing guard over their piece of apple.

We have just the usual suspects although more of them at any one time. Food is being topped up throughout the day and bird bath regularly thawed.

Like with Sue above just the usual suspects have been visiting but sadly no redwings or fieldfares. The café proprietor has been been stocking up supplies at a more frequent interval than usual.

They arrived looking for berries Amelia, there are not many in the garden so I started feeding apples.

Yes, some lovely pictures. The redwings and fieldfares have not made it into our garden although there are many reports of these birds about in Devon at the moment. We do get the pugnacious blackbirds along with plenty of goldfinches and regular groups of long tailed tits passing through. Also one female blackcap this morning.

Goldfinches are a joy to see in the garden. In my experience when a female blackcap finds a feeder a male follows, here in autumn around two to three weeks later.
